The LHA Trust Funds Center for Healthcare Enterprise Risk is proud to announce our two-part Fundamentals in Louisiana Healthcare Risk course. The Fundamentals program will look at healthcare risk across the organization to proactively identify risks, mitigate organization exposure, and respond when unforeseen situations transpire. Attendees of this course will be provided with a comprehensive overview of organizational risk exposures, best tools, and innovative ideas to mitigate these risks and gain a general understanding of basic insurance concepts related to those risks. The course will serve as a strong beginning for those new to their roles and an excellent refresher for the more experienced professional. Key risk concepts include identifying and managing clinical, environmental and technology risks, employee safety, contractual liability and related insurance products.

Fundamentals of Louisiana Healthcare Enterprise Risk: Part 1 - October 23

Fundamentals in Louisiana Healthcare Risk Part 1 focuses on fundamentals, clinical exposures and plan development offering an ideal educational foundation for new risk managers and an excellent refresher for the more experienced healthcare risk management professional. The course will present an overview of key risk management concepts:

  • Healthcare Risk Management Fundamentals
  • Healthcare Clinical Risk Challenges & Opportunities
  • Managing Clinical Risks
  • Physician Office/Clinic Risks
  • Risk Management Plan Development

This program has been approved for a total of 5.25 contact hours of Continuing Education
Credit toward fulfillment of the requirements of ASHRM designations of FASHRM (Fellow) and DFASHRM (Distinguished Fellow) and towards CPHRM renewal.

This program has been approved for a total of 5.25 nursing contact hours by the Louisiana Hospital Association for complete attendance of the program. The Louisiana Hospital Association is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing – CE Provider #39.

This domain covers risk management components & definition, the role of the healthcare risk management professional, risk identification, communication of risk issues, compliance with regulatory agencies and risk management resources.

Healthcare Clinical Risk Challenges & Opportunities

This domain covers high-risk areas, national patient safety goals, adverse events, EMR documentation essentials, patient complaints and end of life issues.

Managing Clinical Risks

This domain covers patient safety-incident reporting tools, deep dive/investigations/reviews, patient safety organizations, rounding, informed consent, consent to treat and EMTALA.

Physician Practice/Clinic/Urgent Care Risks

This domain covers communication, patient satisfaction, patient safety/quality metrics, assessment/discharge process & documentation, medical records, medication safety, diagnostic testing, referrals, supply & equipment management, environment of care and emergency preparedness.

Risk Management Plan Development

This domain covers risk management planning, including how to develop one, obtain plan approval and an annual plan review.

Stacie Jenkins, RN, MSN, CPSO
Vice President of Patient Safety and Risk, LHA Trust Funds
Stacie Jenkins is a registered nurse with a master’s degree in nursing informatics. She has more than 20 years’ experience in healthcare, working in patient care and quality/performance improvement positions. As director of quality and patient safety for the LHA Trust Funds, she works closely with hospital administrators, risk managers and nursing staff to improve patient safety and establish best practices. She conducts on-site assessments and gives presentations designed to help clients address their patient safety risk management challenges.

Allison Rachal, RN-BC, CPSO
Sr. Patient Safety Consultant, LHA Trust Funds
Allison Rachal has more than 23 years of nursing and clinical risk management experience in patient care, patient safety, risk management, case management, medical malpractice claims review, quality management and nursing administration. Her direct patient care included emergency room, behavioral health and home health care responsibilities. She is well versed in healthcare regulatory requirements (TJC, CMS, DHH) and industry best practices, and frequently educates and trains members on various patient safety topics. She holds an ANCC Certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing and is certified as a Management of Aggressive Behaviors (MOAB) Instructor-Trainer.

Director of Patient Safety, LHA Trust Funds
Caroline Stegeman has 28 years of nursing and clinical risk management experience in a variety of healthcare settings. She has extensive experience in the management and handling of patient safety issues/ incidents, clinical and environmental risk assessments, root cause analysis, regulatory and industry best practices (TJC, CMS, DHH), hospital emergency preparedness and disaster management and quality improvement initiatives.

Cindy Dolan is President and Chief Executive Officer of HSLI. She leads the senior management team and has responsibility for development and implementation of the corporate mission and strategy for all organizations. Ms. Dolan serves on the board of the Louisiana Rural Health Association, an organization dedicated to the promotion of rural health care through advocacy, education and leadership.

Mike Walsh, AIC, CPCU
Liability Claims Manager, LHA Trust Funds
Mike Walsh is an AIC and CPCU-credentialed professional with more than three decades of experience in insurance claims, primarily in medical malpractice. As liability claims manager for LHA Trust Funds, Walsh heads a team of senior claims consultants who investigate and assist in the resolution of claims brought against their clients. Walsh also works closely with hospital administrators, risk managers, safety officers and clinical staff to help them identify and address potential liability issues.

Glenn Eiserloh has more than seventeen (17) years of loss prevention and risk management experience. Mr. Eiserloh has a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of New Orleans in Finance with a concentration in insurance. He provides consultation services relative to workplace loss prevention, safety training, general liability risk reduction, worksite safety inspections and trend analysis.

Senior Risk Consultant, LHA Trust Funds
Steve Johnson provides consultation services to hospitals and healthcare facilities that are members of the LHA Trust Funds regarding safety issues related to general liability and workers’ compensation. Mr. Johnson has approximately 14 years of experience in risk management, including on-site risk assessment, safety training and accident investigation. He is a 2005 graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science.
